About the Speaker

Bertrand Meyer is an author, academic and consultant in the field of computer languages, renowned for the creation of the Eiffel programming language.  He is currently Professor of Software Engineering at ETH Zürich, the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology.

Meyer studied at the École Polytechnique in Paris before completing a Master’s degree at Stanford University and a PhD at the Université de Nancy.  He has also received an honorary doctorate from Saint Petersburg State University of Information Technologies, Mechanics and Optics.  Meyer has worked for Électricité de France and spent three years lecturing at the University of California.  He is a member of the French Academy of Technologies and was the first recipient of the AITO Dahl-Nygaard Award in 2005 for his contributions to the field of Object Orientation.  He also received the ACM Software System Award in recognition of the design of Eiffel.
