Computers and Conservation

History and the Future:

Wednesday 17 June, 11.00 - 13.00

In the Manchester celebrations for Computer 50, the rebuilt 'Baby' from 1948 is a centrepiece of a new gallery at the Museum of Science and Industry. Many historic computers are less spectacular; the challenges of balancing preservation and interpretation may be considerable. In this seminar, we explored and discussed how to care for and give meaningful access to computing collections in museums.

The seminar was organised jointly by the Museum of Science and Industry in Manchester and the British Computer Society, and hosted by the University of Manchester.
